About Me

About Dr. Robert Denkin, Ph.D.
Clinical Psychologist in CT & NY

Why I Became a Psychologist?
Throughout my career, I’ve often been asked, “Why did you become a psychologist?” For me, the answer is simple. It has always been natural for me to listen and provide guidance, and helping people has been second nature. Growing up, I was the one who many of my friends came to when they had a problem.
My mother, Dr. Edythe Denkin, was a renowned psychologist, and from her, I learned a great deal about how to help others. After years of clinical practice, I feel blessed to continue making a positive impact in people’s lives
My Approach
I approach therapy believing in everyone’s capacity for a healthy, fulfilling life. Through practical, skillful problem-solving, I help you identify barriers to your well-being and empower you to overcome obstacles hindering your personal growth. My aim is to create a safe, supportive environment where you can cultivate self-awareness, boost self-esteem, and reach your personal goals.

Professional Excellence
With over 20 years of clinical experience, I bring both academic excellence and real-world expertise to my practice. I earned my PhD in Clinical Psychology from Palo Alto University and served as Assistant Clinical Professor at Yale University’s Department of Psychiatry. As former Supervising Psychologist at the Connecticut Veterans Administration and a Senior Psychologist at Folsom State Prison, I gained extensive experience helping individuals overcome trauma, PTSD, and complex life challenges.
Unique Perspective
As a former collegiate athlete and coach, I understand the mental aspects of peak performance. This athletic background gives me unique insight into overcoming mental barriers, which I apply not just in sports psychology but in all areas of therapy.

My Mission
At the core of my practice is a commitment to helping people live more meaningful, balanced, and fulfilling lives. I empower individuals to embrace their unique strengths and realize their full potential by providing thoughtful, personalized care in a safe and supportive environment. Through practical and skillful problem-solving, I work with clients to identify and overcome barriers to personal growth, always striving to foster self-awareness, resilience, and personal development.
My Vision
My goal is to deliver highly individualized therapy, whether in-person or via telehealth, drawing on approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic psychotherapy, mindfulness-based skills training, behavioral strategies, stress management techniques, and sport and performance psychology. By creating a collaborative and respectful therapeutic relationship, I aim to help each person confidently navigate life’s challenges, achieve measurable progress, and ultimately move from surviving to thriving.
